The Bitterroot is starting to clear up from last week's rain and the weather is heating up. We are still going strong fishing skwalas and starting to see more blue wings as well. When you head out there pack a few sculpin pattern streamers to start your mornings, nice slow strips are best. Then round out your afternoons with some skwala pattern foam or a BWO for that dry fly eat and keep it close to the bank.
The water levels have started to come down and as of this morning we are looking at 584 CFS for the upper river and 1140 CFS for the lower river. With the temperatures on the rise, we are looking at those numbers to increase as the next week unfolds.
With it's boast of amazing fishing the Bitterroot also has quite a few obstacles to be aware of while floating this river. The latest report shows a new tree down below woodside just above willow creek.
