The river is starting to settle down and the fishing is beginning to pick back up. Skwala action is still fairly limited, however BWO's are still prevalent in the afternoons. With the water still being a bit discolored nymphs and streamers are going to be your best bet. Keep your vest packed with rubber legs, squirmy worms, Duracell's, and flashback PT's. If you're looking for that meat eater, we suggest throwing streamers deep and strip slow, a wooly bugger, goldie, or sparkle minnow pattern is a great option.
The current water levels are sitting at 1,980 CFS for lower river, 1,040 CFS for upper river, and 247 CFS for the West Fork. Although currently high, these numbers are starting to taper off and level out. With the temperatures warming up the water level is expected to spike back up towards the middle of next week.
There are some big obstructions currently in the Bitterroot. A major one being a log blockage between Lone Pine and Wally Crawford. If floating the river, please always use caution and stay safe out there!
UPDATE: Log blockage between Lone Pine and Wally Crawford has been cleared.
