March 15th Fishing Report

March 15th Fishing Report

Who’s headed out to enjoy this beautiful weekend? You might be rewarded with some decent dry fly action in the process.  Midges, Numora and a few Skwalas have been rumored to have been seen recently and some of the fish seem to be taking notice. You won’t find these bugs river wide just yet, but anywhere there’s a chance of underground spring water entering the system to warm up the water temps slightly, may offer a suggestion where you should be looking for the most activity. The nymphing game is still strong with stonefly nymphs, tung jigs and worms ruling under the indicator. Streamer fishing will improve over the next week with the warming temps as well. Look for olive or white, maybe something flashy to put in most of the productive work.
Right now the river hazards are minimal from what we’ve heard. We haven’t had any reports of major blockages, however this may change at any moment, you must remain vigilant on the oars just in case.
Flows for the Root are stable for now with the upper river running around 220 CFS and the mid river is around 350 CFS. Look for the flows to increase with the high temps over the weekend. Be safe on the water.  We’ll see ya out there!
