March 8th Fishing Report

March 8th Fishing Report

The 3 day forecast for this weekend is looking pretty favorable for good fishing with highs near 50 everyday. This may get this fish a bit more active. You’ll find the fish off the edges of the main current in the slower water in 3’-6’ of water or the deeper tail outs. Patience can be key this time of year, and getting your flies in the zone and keeping it there is the most important part. The fish are trying to conserve energy as their simply is not as much food in the drift as when the water temps warm and the bugs are more active. This time of year get the fish to move throwing a big stonefly nymph, prince nymph or something juicy. Give em a reason they should move to eat your bug. Yes they are eating midges and small bugs, that’s primarily their diet, this time of year especially, but to get them to move, sometimes you just have to entice them with something a little bit bigger.

Flies to have in your box this weekend:

Nymphs: Perdigons, PTs, Rubberlegs, San Juan’s, Zirdle Bugs

Dries: Para midge, Midge cluster, Hi-Viz Midge

Streamer: Sparkle Minnow, Galloups Mini Dungeon, Thin Mint, Skiddish Smolt

We have not heard of any obstructions on the river. If you know of any please share with us so we can get the word out.
