May 23rd Fishing Report

The Bitterroot is seeing the effects of run off however the slim clarity of the river is still offering some promising opportunities of landing fish. We have had some cooler weather this past week and it's been working in our favor maintaining the river flows. To target the hatches in the morning we suggest a dry dropper to increase your opportunities of an eat. Currently we are seeing a caddis, grey drake, BWO, march brown, and midge hatch. Your odds of fishing these hatches will increase in the warmer afternoons and its looking like water clarity is better the higher up on the river you go. Streamer and nymph fishing are a viable option, larger patterns have been producing better. Try out a TJ hooker, San Juan worm, or a jig Prince for nymphing, and sparkle minnows, Lil' Kim, or a Goldie for streamer fishing.

The flows are currently 2940 CFS at lower river, 2130 CFS at upper river, and 833 at the West Fork. The river is constantly changing with blow out, so obstructions are changing daily. When floating or walk wading be aware of the changing conditions and stay safe.
