The Bitterroot is swinging into its fall conditions. We are seeing lower water levels, and the weather is staying pretty consistent in the 70s and sunny, however it looks like later into next week we can expect some cooler temps and clouds. The dry bite is still mostly Tricos with some Mahogony's making an appearance. For these smaller bugs a good drift and lighter leaders/tippet are crucial, we'd run a 9ft 4x leader with 5x tippet. There has been some October caddis out there so another good option would be a big stimulator with a Perdigon or Duracell dropper. For those cloudier days streamer fishing is a good option, sparkle minnows have been producing well.
The current flows are 300 CFS at the lower river, 150 CFS for upper river, and the West Fork is sitting at 65 CFS.
