April 4th Fishing Report

April 4th Fishing Report

Spring fishing is in full swing in the Bitterroot with skwala on the move throughout the river. Anglers aren't the only ones taking note of this stonefly, the fish are looking up and eager to take down those dry flies. We'd suggest using water walkers or plan B's, black and purple have been getting the job done out there. The warmer afternoons have been fishing better for dry fly action but don't be afraid to head out in the mornings and nymph, duracells are still a great option.

We are currently getting a bit of rain however its looking like it should be cleared up by this weekend and temperatures staying pretty consistent with high's above 45-50 degrees. There was a substantial jump in water last night which is putting us at 760 CFS for upper and 1010 CFS at lower river.

We are forecasted to get a little above 1000 CFS this weekend for the upper river and 2000 CFS for the lower river, but then a steady drop after as the rain clears the following week. Obstructions and downed trees/logs are pretty consistent throughout the river so just always remain vigilant out there.
